INTRODUCTION TO REFERENCE SERVICES

June 14th Class Meeting

This is just a refresher for some of things I spoke about last night that may help you with your pathfinder project:

CPS Librarians - To access the CPS databases from home or through VPN access, use these instructions:- log onto http://cps.edu/Pages/home.aspx
- click on the STUDENTS tab
- click on the GET HELP WITH MY HOMEWORK link
- scroll down the page to LIBRARY DATABASES
- choose the database of your choice. reference the database sheet that was distributed from the Dept. of - - Libraries during pd's earlier this year. Please note, each database will have a different username and password login.
- If you need to locate your school's unit number, use this link if you are on the CPS network or using VPN access - http://schools.cps.k12.il.us/

Suburban Librarians - (...and you thought I forgot about you external image 360)
I spoke with the Orland Park Library Reference Librarian this morning and here's some information for you:
- access the SWAN system to locate your suburban library - http://swan.mls.lib.il.us/screens/libinfo.html
- make sure that you don't have any fines or lost books on your account
- each library is different, some databases can be accessed online from home and some only can be accessed from the library terminal. Call and speak to the Reference Librarian regarding the databases they subscribe to.
